Tektronix' Most Popular DSO
The TDS200 Oscilloscopes have quickly become the benchmark for low-cost oscilloscopes. Offering an unbeatable combination of performance, reliability and versatility, the TDS200 Series offers breakthrough digital and real-time advantages at affordable oscilloscope prices. And with the TDS224, the digital performance of the TDS200 Series is available to customers that need four full-featured channels.
Affordable Digital Performance
No other digital oscilloscope offers as much bandwidth and sample rate for the price. By sampling at 10 and 16 times their bandwidths on all channels, the TDS200 Series oscilloscopes provide accurate real-time acquisition up to their full bandwidth.
Digital storage technology supports features not available on most low-cost oscilloscopes, including automatic measurements, peak detect, storage of two reference waveforms and five instrument setups and autoset. Peak detect and high sample rates minimize aliasing while capturing waveform details that remain unseen on many low-cost oscilloscopes.
Versatility and Flexibility
The TDS200's reliable, backlit liquid crystal display permits the instrument to be only 4.75 in. (12 cm) from front to back, while its light weight (3.25 lbs., 1.5 kg) and rugged construction allow for portability. The portable form factor provides increased versatility, allowing the instrument to be easily moved or safely stored away when not in use.
Two productivity enhancing modules are available with capabilities not possible on many low-cost oscilloscopes. The Communication Extension Module allows RS-232 and GPIB programmability, plus the printing of screen shots via a Centronics-type parallel port. The Measurement Extension Module combines the features of the Communications Module plus Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) analysis and four additional measurements. Other optional accessories, such as WaveStar™ software and the AD007 GPIB-LAN adapter, add additional functionality to the TDS200.
Easy to Use
The user interface is similar to that of an analog oscilloscope, but with improvements that reduce learning time and increase efficiency. Knobs and buttons are grouped by function and provide direct access to controls, and each vertical channel has its own dedicated scale and position knobs. Readouts or menus are displayed on-screen at all times, allowing users to more quickly and accurately determine instrument settings. The display responds quickly to control adjustments and has a fast update rate.
All models have a multi-language user interface. Menus and help text are provided in a user-selectable language: English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Korean, Japanese, Traditional Chinese or Simplified Chinese.
The Personal Oscilloscope
The TDS200 Series oscilloscopes are designed for people who demand the ultimate in oscilloscope value. If an inexpensive yet high performance oscilloscope is needed for the bench, production line or training lab, a TDS200 Series Oscilloscope is the best choice.

The usefulness of tektronix oscilloscope is not limited to the world of tektronix electronics.
With the proper transducer, a tektronix oscilloscope can measure all kinds of phenomena. A transducer is a device that creates an electrical signal in response to physical stimuli, such as sound, mechanical stress, pressure, light, or heat. A microphone is a transducer that converts sound into an electrical signal. Figure 1 shows an example of scientific data that can be gathered by an oscilloscope. |
Oscilloscopes are used by everyone from physicists to television repair technicians. An automotive engineer uses an oscilloscope to measure engine vibrations. A medical researcher uses an oscilloscope to measure brain waves. The possibilities are endless.
The concepts presented in this primer will provide you with a good starting point in understanding oscilloscope basics and operation. |
|
|
The glossary in the back of this primer will give you definitions of unfamiliar terms. The vocabulary and multiple-choice written exercises on oscilloscope theory and controls make this primer a useful classroom aid. No mathematical or electronics knowledge is necessary.
After reading this primer, you will be able to:
Describe how tektronix oscilloscopes work
Describe the differences between analogue, digital storage, digital phosphor, and digital sampling tektronix oscilloscopes
Describe electrical waveform types
Understand basic oscilloscope controls
Take simple measurements
|
The manual provided with your oscilloscope will give you more specific information about how to use the oscilloscope in your work. Some oscilloscope manufacturers also provide a multitude of application notes to help you optimize the oscilloscope for your application specific measurements.
